Growing up surrounded by music, I developed a deep passion for the art, enjoying everything from country and rock to reggae and ’80s pop. This love extends to album cover art, where I believe a well-crafted design can set the stage for the story an album tells.

My first album cover project, Whiskey Tears & Broken Hearts by fictional artist Scarlett Dawson, was a personal exploration of creating evocative album art. The goal was to visually express the album’s narrative and stir emotions reflected in the title.

The Process

  • Analyzed and improved original images with pale, muted tones.
  • Applied color correction and overlays inspired by whiskey’s amber hues to add warmth and intimacy.
  • Adjusted contrast and highlights to establish a visual hierarchy, emphasizing Scarlett while ensuring the background complements the composition.
  • Selected a feminine script font for the artist’s name to convey elegance.
  • Paired it with a serif font for the album title to add a sense of seriousness.
  • Sampled colors from the image to create a cohesive connection between typography and visual elements.

The Final Act

The final design blends warmth and elegance through refined photo editing, thoughtful type pairing, and a carefully chosen color palette, setting a fitting tone for the music and drawing the viewer in.
